Boaterhome – Van, Boat, and RV Combine

Boaterhome. I’ll bet you’ve never seen this at the lake.

Boaterhome launch
Ahh, luxury vehicles. You’ve finally saved up enough to buy yourself a little something to load the family up in, pack a cooler, and head off for the weekend. The question is— do you buy yourself that big RV to take long road trips in comfort and style, or a classy motorboat that will be the envy of all lake-goers?

It’s a tricky decision, one that requires careful thought and consideration of all your needs and what you’re willing to give up. Unless you are the owner of this vehicle who decided, forget that— I’ll just build boat and RV hybrid beast that I can drive from Yellowstone National Park right into the lake in my backyard whenever the heck I want.

Boaterhome - BoatTruck
This features what may be the world’s first-ever “boaterhome”, a combo boat and RV that has an incredibly unique way of being a motor home, boat, trailer, and boat ramp all combined into an amazing automated machine. The video opens with a huge, classy and bikini-clad-lady-strewn luxury craft being pulled out of the water with all the smugness of an expensive and luxurious pleasure boat. But then the motorboat driver decides that it’s his turn to turn heads, and he certainly succeeds.

The video below features the first documented on-camera sighting of the boaterhome in its natural habitat, transferring from its larval stage into its fully-grown boat-and-motor-home-hybrid form.

Most boat owners know that even though taking your craft out onto the water on a beautiful day is a blast, most boats spend the majority of the year sitting in the backyard attached to a trailer rig. Outside of the water, they’re not much use.

This boat, however, attaches to the front section of the RV with a hatch that makes the entire living area accessible on land or out on the water. When the boaterhome is in driving mode, it looks like a sort of monster-fied stretch limousine with a racing stripe.

Boaterhome - Boat RV hybrid
Inside, it’s a full-blown motor home allowing travelers to live in comfort and be road-safe and street legal anywhere RVs are allowed to drive. Then, when it’s time to take to the sea, the back section of the vehicle detaches from the front cab, and the front section becomes a trailer with a boat ramp that effortlessly eases the boat into the water for a day on the lake. It’s sort of a lazy vacationer’s dream invention, allowing the user to go from relaxation on land to relaxation on water with absolutely minimal effort.

The best part of the video is watching the RV back into the lake and thinking, as many onlookers probably were, “What is this nut job doing? He’s going to flood his vehicle if he keeps reversing into the water. He knows that cars can’t swim right?”

Then the boat detaches and makes its glorious descent into the water, obviously thinking to itself (if boats could think), “Ha Ha, foolish onlookers! You don’t know me!”

The cab is made from an altered 1986 E-series full-size van, while the boat section is a modified 30-foot motorboat. The attention to detail in making the combined product seamless and natural-looking is amazing, as no one would have any idea that the RV is capable of transforming into a boat while looking at it on land.

Boaterhome interior
According to rumors, there are 20 of these custom-made boater homes in existence, though we doubt that any has as classy a paint job as the one in this video. A few years ago one of these bad boys turned up on Ebay (though we can’t imagine why anyone would ever want to sell one), which is the first time the concept of a boaterhome came to the public’s attention.

Whether you’re pro-boaterhome or anti-boaterhome, let us know what you think of the video and how you would improve on the design. Maybe you could slap some wings on there and create the world’s first flyboaterhome, or homeboplane… or, whatever…
