It’s a story that captures the beauty of the performance industry. Since the factory didn’t offer a Camaro Z/28 convertible, Tony Gaples, owner of Blackdog Speedshop and his team decided to build one themselves.
Blackdog Speedshop is no novice when it comes to creating special Camaros having fielded a number of Camaros in the Pirelli World Challenge Series to a selection of victories as well as the GTS championship.
Tony and the team from Blackdog pulled his 2014 Convertible into the shop and started stripping it down to the bare chassis. They then took his Z/28 and started transferring components over to the Convertible. Whether it was the big LS7 or the tiny Z/28 emblem on the grille, no component was left on the Z/28.

And we aren’t kidding, everything from interior and wiring harnesses, to the Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers and the aero components were transferred to the convertible.
This 1-of-1 Camaro Convertible Z/28 features the front fenders and hood from the Z/28 and a few customized touches that take it to the next level. First is the incredible paint job. The fresh, custom, one-off two-tone paint scheme is absolutely stunning.
Next, the team at Blackdog gave it a custom (hard shell) boot cover for the convertible top and painted it to match the rest of the car. Finally, astute Z/28 fans will recognize the OEM Z/28 wheels, but with a custom black chrome finish.
It takes some serious nerves to execute such a dynamic build, but Blackdog Speed Shop nailed it with this one-of-a-kind Z/28 Convertible. When discussing the car, Blackdog Speedshop owner Tony Gaples said, “I loved the convertible, but I wanted the extra power, cornering ability at speed, the seats, steering wheel and of course the bold appearance of the functional aerodynamics package. All the little details combine to build an even better Camaro.”
