It’s Not a Wrap. It’s Real Carbon Fiber. SpeedKore Hellcat Challenger: 1,100hp, 3,850lbs!

- in Cars

Leading up to the 2016 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the folks from SpeedKore announced that they would be bringing a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with a full carbon fiber body and while that teaser presented a pretty cool idea – the SpeedKore Hellcat Challenger in the flesh is a showstopper.
This carbon fiber Mopar muscle car is an absolute beauty, but in cutting more than 600 pounds from the supercharged Challenger, this body swap is more functional than aesthetic.

There are a great many modern muscle cars from Dodge, Ford and Chevrolet on the floor of the 2016 SEMA Show, but few of them can come anywhere close to the power-to-weight ratio of the SpeedKore Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. In standard form, the Hellcat Challenger offers a ratio of roughly 6.3 pounds per horsepower, but thanks to the SpeedKore full carbon fiber body swap and the Whipple supercharger – the ratio plummets to just 3.5 pounds per horsepower.

The star of this show is SpeedKore’s full carbon fiber body, which replaces every stock component with a lightweight carbon fiber piece – much of which has simply been clear coated to show the familiar weave pattern. This front and rear fascia, the hood, the fenders, the doors, the trunk lid, the quarter panels, the front splitter, the rear spoiler and even the roof have a carbon fiber skin, allowing the company to reduce the weight by “more than 600 pounds”. Even if we use the number of just 600 pounds, that cuts the Hellcat Challenger’s standard curb weight from 4,451lbs down to 3,851lbs.

Next, SpeedKore added an Eibach suspension setup to improve performance and enhance the aggressive stance, a Brembo carbon ceramic brake package, carbon fiber seats, lightweight HRE wheels and – most significantly – a 4.5L Whipple supercharger. The blower swap, the tune and whatever unmentioned modifications are included in this engine build lift the output from 707 horsepower to 1,100 horsepower…leading to the 3.5 pounds per horsepower ratio.

The SpeedKore Hellcat Challenger is one of the most impressive muscle cars at the 2016 SEMA Show, but the key point here is that SpeedKore is currently planning the sale of these carbon fiber body parts. We can expect things like the fascias, the hood, the fenders, the doors, the carbon trim kit and the trunk lid to be sold separately, but thecarbon fiber roof and quarter panels will only be sold as part of a complete package.

Pricing is not currently available, but when these parts hit the market, we could see some of the quickest Hellcat Challengers getting quicker by cutting weight – rather than adding power.
