This Camaro with Twin-Turbo, Supercharger, and NOS engine is an absolute piece of mechanical art!

These days and to some, a shiny paint job, freshly polished interior complemented by a chrome-infused engine is all you need to stand out the day of competition. While most of us can appreciate a shiny show-ride, even the most cynical gear heads and lovers of classic cars understand that at the end of the day, it’s only what’s under the hood that makes you stand out on race day. Regardless whether you’re a Ford, Chevy, Dodge classic car fanatic; the love of horsepower, speed and excellent mechanics always seems to bring us back together.

Let’s face it folks. To most of us gear heads, and if fortunate enough to have the opportunity; there is nothing better than getting back under the hood of your classic after a long week at work. We’re always trying to find something else to work on and improve. Even if it is of the smallest of changes, we love working on our cars. And then there is Bradley Gray out of Rockwell, NC. Bradley’s supercharged, twin turbo 1969 Camaro SS has both the sex appeal of a classic car, and harbors the punch of a nitrous breathing monster.

Bradley put his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS under the knife like a mad scientist going to work on a smattering of corpses. Instead of strictly adhering to Pro Street conventions, or any for that matter, Gray marched to the beat of his own drum maintaining the history of the car. “It’s a Pro Street car with a full cage,” Gray explained. “The car has a lot of drag racing history. It was actually put on the strip back in 1972, so it’s been racing all its life.”

Most people like to supercharge old muscle cars if they go for a forced induction setup. Turbochargers are blasphemy to some purists, but they certainly aren’t nonexistent. Gray did one bigger and slapped a 14-71 supercharger on the car’s donated 468 big block V-8, then added two 68 mm turbochargers for good measure. The configuration runs a respectable 14 pounds of boost.

While that setup is enough to get a person institutionalized, Gray went even further and added a fogger nitrous system that adds a temporary 200 horsepower to the engine’s output. That makes for three forms of forced induction, which is one way to make sure you’re being thorough. The exhaust growls aggressively, which is to be expected. The supercharger whines like a cat being skinned alive when Gray punches it, and the two turbos hiss violently like caged snakes. It is a thing of misunderstood beauty, which is the best kind out there. Other additions to the car include some low side skirts and a nice exhaust exit on the driver’s and passenger’s sides. The Camaro SS also has a wheelie bar and parachute mounted to the rear.

As proof of Gray’s intentions with the Camaro SS, he honestly cannot tell anyone how much power it makes. That’s right, the man has not put the car on a dyno and tested out the monstrous setup. Surely it’s at least respectable, but Gray doesn’t care. He didn’t’ make the car to tear up the track and humiliate Nissan Zs and Toyota Supras. He built it as a way to make something that would be different, cause people to think, and just shake things up. Mission accomplished.

The result of this extreme setup is an engine and blower that literally climb out of the hood. The power plant towers a few feet in the air, surpassing the Camaro’s roofline and making it difficult for the driver to see much of anything that is down the road.

While the engine setup might look ridiculous to some, the car has a solid racing history. According to Gray, it first started drag racing back in 1972. Even though it might not look like it, the Camaro is a Pro Street car and so has a full roll cage and other safety measures.

Not everyone gets why Gray built the car and doesn’t care how fast it can throw down a quarter mile. While some need to prove to themselves that they can make a car tear down a drag strip in a hurry, others are content to make people smile and maybe even laugh while marveling at a Camaro that looks as ridiculous as a platypus yet breathes fire like a dragon.
