1936 Chevy Lowrider Bomb “Linda Chicana”

- in Cars

Juan Carillo’s dream to own a Chevy bomb lowrider came true thanks to his uncle.

We all have a favourite car, one that is always in our mind, that one ride to conquer all and bring your vision of rolling the streets to life. It just had everything a young man could wish for in a dream car. The styling just blew my mind and this is also the case for the owner of this classic 1936 Chevy Bomb.

Let me introduce you to Juan Carillo from San Diego, who always had a dream since a young age, to one day own a Chevy Bomb to call his own. Juan was born into lowriding from a young age, as his dad had a 1938 Plymouth, which he bought the year before he was born and then would cruise with him all the time. Juan loves lowriders, but because his father was into bombs, he has always gravitated towards that style ever since.

Juan came across the 36′ Chevy when he was with friends and family camping in the desert on a bike riding weekend. At the time, he was building a 1951 sedan delivery, but he wasn’t feeling it anymore. It was whilst he was on this trip, that his uncle asked how the Sedan project was going on and as Juan wasn’t really feeling the Sedan and wanted his ultimate car, his uncle came the rescue.

His uncle said that he knew of a guy who he tattoo’d that had own a 36′ Chevy. So Juan contacted the guy and once back from his trip, he put a down payment to secure it. This was back in 2005. The original owners wouldn’t have had the time to build it as he was working on two other builds at the time, so he appreciated what Juan wanted to do with the Chevy.

The Chevy was literally just the frame and shell! No engine, interior or wheels. This made it perfect for Juan to add his own personal identity to the car and truly make it his own, with the help of his father and uncle.

It took seven years to build the Chevy as it was something that Juan and the family had never done before. However, it didn’t matter to them how long it took and they went all in, making sure all looked perfect. Every Friday night, his friend Carrot would also lend a hand in creating the masterpiece.

The result is simply stunning! And it was the first time we had seen one in such a color. A House of Kolor candy magenta makes this Chevy bomb stand out from the ones we have seen in California and it is the reason it drew our attention.

You have to be brave to go against the grain of the usual colors and we are glad that Juan did. It is a masterpiece and when you take a closer look, the Chevy also has family influences, especially on the firewall of the engine bay…but it’s not the only place.

In the back of the Chevy, Juan has one very cool hat that he takes with him everywhere he goes. This is no ordinary hat, this one means so much more than to be a styling piece.  It belonged to his uncle Cruz, who had a 1964 Buick Riveria and he always wore this hat everywhere he went.

He unfortunately got cancer and Juan was only half way done with the Chevy and his uncle wanted to hold on longer to be able to see it and go for a ride. However, he passed away before then and so to honor him, Juan rides with him in spirit and keeps the hat on the back seat. RIP Uncle Cruz.
